Two scaffolding maintenance workers (earlier reports incorrectly stated they were window washers0 were rescued by the New York Fire Department after scaffolding buckled into a V-shape above the 45th floor of Manhattan’s Hearst Building.
The window washers were left dangling for 90 minutes while wind gusts reached 30+ mph. Rescuers cut a hole in the window parallel to the scaffold in order to reach the men.
The window washers, both men, were wearing harnesses at the time of the accident, and firefighters lowered an extra set of harnesses to them. Several news stations filmed the dramatic rescue.
