Lansing Man Charged with Tagging Michigan Capitol Heading to Trial
As reported on September 6, the Michigan State Capitol was tagged with graffiti. The words “give art a chance” were spray painted on a war memorial and stick figures were spray-painted on two of the Capitol’s east inner pillars. The suspect, Jeffrey Handley, waived preliminary examination and is headed to trial. Click here to read the story.

Berkeley Graffiti Event Organizer Removes Tags on Surrounding Buildings.
As reported on September 8, an organized graffiti event in Berkeley got out of hand, as surrounding buildings for several blocks were tagged by amateurs during the event. Now the event’s organizer has personally taken on the task of righting the wrong, removing graffiti himself, along with several volunteer muralists. Click here to read the story.

Graffiti on the Lincoln Presidential Library, Springfield, Ill.
Someone tagged the Lincoln Presidential Library with brown marker on the museum’s north marble wall. Damage is estimated at $200 and there are no suspects.

Window Cleaner Falls Through Glass Awning, Hits Head on Sidewalk
In Bellingham, 30-year veteran window washer, Bruce Sherman, was rushed to the hospital after falling 10-feet through a glass awning and hitting his head on the sidewalk. Sherman was hospitalized and in “serious condition,” although he was breathing on his own and talking that night. This wasn’t Sherman’s first window cleaning accident. He fell 2.5 stories years prior, but walked away unscathed.
September 10, 2012:
Cleaning of California Capitol Stopped after Pressure Washer’s Scaffolding Failed
Pressure washing of the Legislative Building in San Francisco was stopped after one of the platforms collapsed, leaving cleaning contractor hanging from lifeline 40 feet above the ground. Officials have stated that the $1.148 million project will not resume until all scaffolding and equipment is checked, and workers for the job receive additional safety training.
